Study visit from Kobe, Japan

8 November 2022

A delegation from Kobe, Japan visited the Dutch Cycling Embassy in November 2022. On the first day they visited The Hague for a meeting with DCE Director Lucas Harms, Policy Advisor Cycling and Shared Mobility in the City of The Hague Rinse Gorter, and Professor at Ghent University Rob van der Bijl. It was a very interesting discussion where we talked about Dutch cycling policies, best practices, and how to create cycling oriented cites. After a short walk to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water management, the delegation had a lunch meeting with the Active Mobility Team of the Dutch government. In the afternoon we went on a bike ride through a rainy The Hague. Despite the weather it was a great finish of the first day.

On the second day, the delegation met in Rotterdam for a meeting and a tour with Bart Christiaens, the Cycling Program Manager in the City of Rotterdam. After a meeting in which Bart explained the cycling projects they did in the last few years, we were able to see them for ourselves. We cycled to a lot of highlights: Markthal, Erasmusbridge, Blaak Station, and many newly developed intersections and bike lanes.
