Knowledge DCE holds Workshop for Clingendael Institute 9 September 2024 Cycling News On 5th September 2024, the Dutch Cycling Embassy held a workshop for trainee diplomats from Pakistan and Bangladesh at the Clingendael Institute in The Hague. The Clingendael Institute is an independent think tank and academy on international affairs, based in The Hague, which organises trainings for diplomats. The group of future diplomats from Pakistan and Bangladesh had shown fervent interest in the topic of cycling during the first weeks of their Dutch training, and so the Institute invited the DCE to hold a workshop. To open the workshop, DCE project coordinator Emma Stubbe held a presentation on the development of cycling in the Netherlands, basic principles of cycling infrastructure planning, and the DCE’s structures, mission, work and effectiveness. Participants then proceeded to workshop, in small groups, two challenges: the first was to identify steps and challenges to turn their hometowns and cities into cycling-friendly places, and the second was to build their own topical diplomacy organisation. The discussions that ensued were lively, engaged and very insightful for both the participants and Emma. The participants asked thought-provoking questions, and contributed both creative solutions as well as interesting insights into their homes’ geographies, cultures, and existing cycling projects. The Dutch Cycling Embassy would like to thank the Clingendael Institute for the invitation to hold the workshop, and looks forward to collaborating again.
