Knowledge Cycling & walking together during annual Global MoU Summit in Arnhem, the Netherlands 14 June 2025 Cycling News In the week of 2 June, representatives from across the globe gathered in Arnhem for the annual Global MoU Summit, part of an international effort to speed up the transition to zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. Since COP26 in Glasgow, the Netherlands has co-led this initiative in partnership with the US-based NGO Calstart. The shared ambition is to ensure that, by 2040, all new trucks and buses sold are zero-emission. An interim goal has been set to reach 30% zero-emission sales by 2030. These targets are outlined in the Global Memorandum of Understanding on Zero-Emission Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles (Global MoU). So far, 39 countries have signed the Global MoU, with more than 200 companies, research institutions, regional governments, and organisations endorsing the agreement. Together, they form a vibrant international community working towards a cleaner, more sustainable transport sector. The summit in Arnhem, held on 2 and 3 June, featured discussions on technology, policy, and implementation strategies to help achieve the zero-emission targets. While the group meets regularly online, the annual in-person summit offers a valuable opportunity for connection, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas. To round off the event, an informative cycling and walking tour was organised on 4th of June, symbolising the commitment to clean, active forms of mobility. The cycling tour was organised in close collaboration with Dutch Cycling Embassy experts and the City of Arnhem and supported by the Dutch Enterprise Agency and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water management. Hans Schreuder (University of Applied Sciences Arnhem-Nijmegen), Ruben Loendersloot (Loendersloot internationaal), Wim van der Wijk (Haskoning) en Roxy Tacq (TACQ) ensured the participants gained insights about the the Dutch cycling culture as well visiting various spots en route linked to zero emmission constructing.
