Profile picture of Jan Alexander Stawinski

Jan is an urban researcher and mobility advisor based in Amsterdam. Having grown up between Poland and France, he moved to the Netherlands in 2014 and holds a Research Master in Urban Studies from the University of Amsterdam. He also brings around seven years of experience in international business development and project management, which gave him the negotiation and communication skills he now applies to urban cooperation and participation projects.

Jan’s work sits at the intersection of urban planning and mobility, with a focus on cycling, public transport and wayfinding. As a researcher of 20th-century architecture, from modernism and garden cities to planned cities and large-scale housing, he analyses how these projects shaped mobility and social bonds. Convinced that cities should be built for people rather than cars, he looks for mobility solutions that work in practice, from tactical urbanism and micro-projects to public transport integration. As a facilitator and connector, he is as much at home in the field and among people as behind a desk.

Jan publishes essays on cities, mobility and the social side of urban planning, and shares his views on cycling, public transport and architecture on his YouTube channel. He works in Dutch, English, Polish, French and German, and is keen to bring Dutch cycling knowledge to Central and Eastern Europe and France.
