Virtual Study Visit for University of Leeds

11 July 2024

On May 13, 2024, the Dutch Cycling Embassy conducted a virtual study visit for students from the University of Leeds’ Institute for Transport Studies (ITS). The session aimed to provide insights into the Dutch approach to mobility planning and cycling infrastructure.

Ruxandra Aelenei, a mobility consultant at R.A. Planning and a lecturer at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, kicked off the virtual lecture with a comprehensive presentation on the mobility planning of Utrecht, covering its past, present, and future developments.

Following this, Emma Stubbe of the Dutch Cycling Embassy provided an in-depth exploration of the historical and cultural context of Dutch cycling. She highlighted the lessons learned over the past forty years and the numerous benefits stemming from the high levels of cycling prevalent in the Netherlands.

Chris Bruntlett concluded the session with a compelling presentation on making cycling accessible for everyone and integrating bicycles with public transport.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from the students, with numerous questions and lively discussions.  We look forward to future engagements with the University of Leeds.
