Velo-city 2025 Conference in Gdansk

16 June 2025

From June 10th to 13th, 2025, the Dutch Cycling Embassy lead a delegation of over 75 Dutch experts from 21 public and private organizations to Gdansk, Poland for the 2025 Velo-city Conference, the world’s largest international cycling conference.

The unofficial program began on June 9th when representatives of ECF’s Cities & Regions for Cyclists, a network of over sixty local and regional authorities, met in Gdansk for the CRC Network Day 2025. This annual in-person meeting gives the local and regional administrations of the network the chance to meet, discuss, exchange ideas and acquire new knowledge. Taking place in the historic Great Wety Hall of the Main Town Hall of Gdansk, this year’s edition was co-organised with the City of Gdansk and sponsored by the Dutch Cycling Embassy.

The official program began on Tuesday morning, with an opening ceremony led by European Cyclists’ Federation CEO Jill Warren and President Henk Swarttouw. The Dutch Cycling Pavilion then officially opened; a showcase of the best products, expertise and innovative solutions from our network.

The four days of the conference offered countless Dutch speakers in both plenary and parallel sessions. To celebrate the Fietsersbond’s 50th anniversary, CEO Esther van Garderen joined the Fietsersbond Belgium for a Q&A on the Freewheel Stage. CROW’s Hillie Talens took the stage to present about how hindsight and the lessons that they have learned can improve urban infrastructure around the world. Hidde Van der Bijl took to the stage at to explore how The Municipality of The Hague is using traffic circulation to create an autoluwe binnenstad (“low-car city centre”). Movares’ Simone Jorink joined us on the Freewheel Stage to discuss how building inclusive infrastructure means building inclusive parking. Goudappel’s Rens van Vilsteren took the stage to present about their data-driven approach for sustainable urban mobility.

It was an absolute pleasure to play our small part in a hugely successful Conference in Gdansk. Our sincere thanks to the European Cyclists’ Federation, the local organizers, and everyone who visited the Dutch Cycling Pavilion. See you in Rimini in 2026!
