Utrecht Study Visit from Queen’s University Belfast

23 June 2025

On the afternoon of June 20th, 2025, the Dutch Cycling Embassy hosted a delegation of around 25 students and staff from Queen’s University Belfast. This half-day session was part of a larger study visit of the Netherlands organized by their Global Leadership Programme. To kick off proceedings, International Relations Manager Chris Bruntlett provided an overview of cycling in the Netherlands, the various quantitative and qualitative benefits of building a cycling city, and specific examples of global cities attempting to transfer these policies and ideas to their context. Following that presentation, a cycling tour was led by Chris and intern Tyler Barron, who guided the group around Centraal station’s bike parking facility, the Catherijnesingel, and the world’s busiest cycling lane along the Vredenburg. It was a pleasure to host the group and to engage in their questions. We hope they had an inspiring end to their trip!
