Knowledge TRB Washington and visit to New York 18 January 2023 Cycling News Last week the Dutch Cycling Embassy kicked of in a joint mission with Arlette van Gilst from the Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat and Sonja Rijsbosch from Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO) with a short visit to New York and Washington DC. In New York we exchanged with DCE-partner MIJKSENAAR and their work in re-designing the Penn station area and their ambitions for the American market in relation to cycling. Thanks to Joost Heijmenberg and his colleagues for hosting us and showing us around. We also met with Ken Podziba from Bike New York, with VanMoof in Brooklyn and we re-connected to Anna Luten. From Saturday onwards we have been at the Annual Meeting of the #TRB2023 conference in Washington DC, interacting with the American transport professionals and cycling community in various lectures and workshops. Amongst many meetings, happy to have joined a panel with Amelia Neptune from the League of American Bicyclists moderated by Erik Verroen, discussing opportunities to improve cycling conditions in American cities. In addition, good to discuss our future collaboration with Bas Govers and Hannah van Amelsfort from Goudappel. We also had the honor of re-connecting to Claudia Adriazola and Felipe Ramírez Buitrago and their wonderul team at the World Resources Institute to discuss opportunities for future collaborations, and we had great meetings with Binyam Reja’s team at The World Bank and Shari Shaftlein’s team from the Federal Highway Administration. On the final day we cycled the streets of Washington DC, guided by the team of Everett L. and Will Handsfield from District Department of Transportation (DDOT). Looking forward to much more to come in the year ahead! We will be back in Washington in March for a ThinkBike Workshop and the National Bike Summit! A big thanks to everyone for the warm welcome, especially to Lilian van Ek (Vermeulen), Lieske Streefkerk-Arts and Zwanette Bruggink from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the USA and the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in New York for all their support!
