Transforming Transportation 2026

16 March 2026

The Dutch Cycling Embassy (DCE) proudly participated in the World Bank’s Transforming Transportation 2026, a premier global event dedicated to fostering economic growth and improving access to jobs through sustainable transport solutions. Held on 11–12 March 2026 at the World Bank headquarters in Washington D.C., the conference provided a platform for DCE to showcase its expertise and commitment to promoting cycling as a vital mode of transport.

Founded in 2003 and co-hosted by the World Bank and WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities, Transforming Transportation is the leading annual conference focused on transforming mobility in the Global South. This year’s edition brought together innovators and decision-makers -from policymakers and CEOs to researchers and advocates- who are actively shaping the future of transport.

The event kicked off on 9 March with a morning cycling tour around Washington D.C.’s National Mall, organised by WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities in collaboration with global partners, including the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. The ride not only energised participants but also highlighted cycling’s pivotal role in building livable, people-centred cities. It set a dynamic tone for the week’s discussions on practical, innovative transport solutions.

DCE contributed actively to the conference key discussions and sessions. Representative spoke during the Active Mobility session: Pathways to Jobs and Prosperity, as well as Rated Criteria and Performance-based Contracts: Maximising Value, Life-Cycle Efficiency, and Jobs session. DCE’s participation underscored the importance of cycling in creating inclusive, efficient, and sustainable transport systems.

As the conference concluded, DCE reaffirmed its dedication to promoting cycling as a cornerstone of sustainable urban development. Transforming Transportation 2026 served as a vital hub for exchanging ideas, showcasing innovations, and advancing the global agenda for sustainable transportation. DCE will continues support knowledge sharing to embrace cycling as a key solution for economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social equity.
