Knowledge RvO and DCE Collaborate at the Dutch National Conference of Sustainable Mobility 12 November 2024 Cycling News On 11th November, 2024, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RvO) and the Dutch Cycling Embassy (DCE) took part in the Dutch National Conference on Sustainable Mobility (Nationale Conferentie Duurzame Mobiliteit), where they hosted a session titled Golden Pedal Power: The Dutch Cycling Sector as a Champion of Green Growth. The session aimed to foster connections among experts across the sustainable mobility sector—not just within cycling— by having a dialogue on current Dutch cycling innovations in comparison with cycling developments and innovations abroad. The session covered a range of innovations, including GRAVAA’s adaptable tyre pressure system, Fulpra’s professional cargo bikes, and Movares’ contributions to bicycle parking solutions in Paris. However, in a spirit of self-reflection, it was noted that global developments in cycling sometimes outpace those in the Netherlands. Participants concluded that the Dutch may view cycling as ‘too ordinary,’ there is room to take greater pride in our achievements and to show more courage in trialling new initiatives, such as collaborative pilot projects within the cycling field. Importantly, as we implement new innovations, we must also remain mindful of the context in which we work. The session attracted a diverse audience from both government organisations, knowledge institutions and private companies, leading to insightful and varied discussions. The session was hosted by Sonja Munnix, Sipke Castelijn, and Jelle Bakker of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency and Skadi Tirpak and Shelley Bontje of the Dutch Cycling Embassy. Lastly, a warm thank you to the organisers of the National Conference on Sustainable Mobility for including us in their outstanding programme.
