Knowledge “Metropolis of the Future” International Seminar in Bilbao 2 March 2026 Cycling News On Thursday, February 26th, 2025, the Dutch Cycling Embassy was in Bilbao, Spain to participate in an international seminar entitled “Metropolis of the Future” organised by Bilbao Metropoli 30 and Caminos Euskadi. The meeting brought together top-level international speakers to share urban projects and initiatives that can serve as inspiration for the future of Bilbao and Bizkaia. International Relations Manager Chris Bruntlett joined Mario Alves from the International Federation of Pedestrians, Francisco González from TECAMAC, Carlos Gonzales from Elecnor, and Patricia Molina from Tecnalia for a panel discussion in a session entitled “At the Forefront of Europe: Projects That Connect People”. His intervention was explored how e-bikes are transforming regional mobility and enabling longer-distance cycling, using the Dutch experience as a reference model for future metropolitan development. By designing direct, separated, prioritised, wide, and recognisable cycling routes, regions can reduce congestion, improve public health, generate economic returns, and support sustainable urban planning.
