Knowledge Fifth India-the Netherlands Joint Working Group Meeting held in the Hague 14 May 2025 Cycling News The fifth India–Netherlands Joint Working Group on urban planning, water management, and mobility convened on 30 April in The Hague, marking another step forward in a decade-long collaboration under the Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries. The in-person meeting brought together key representatives from India’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and the Dutch Ministries of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK) and Infrastructure and Water Management (IenW). Following the fourth meeting, held virtually in June 2021, this year’s session focused on deepening cooperation in urban development, smart cities, innovation, waste-to-value projects, and placed renewed emphasis on urban active mobility. The Dutch Cycling Embassy was invited to highlight urban active mobility in Dutch cities through a walking tour in The Hague. The tour demonstrated how cycling and walking are being integrated into the city’s urban planning and mobility systems to enhance liveability, health, and sustainability. While addressing differences and opportunities for mutual learning around mobility transformation, participants visited key locations including Grote Marktstraat and Spuiplein. Topics discussed included shared public spaces, intermodality, and the evolution of The Hague’s transport network. The Dutch Cycling Embassy appreciated the invitation from BZK and IenW to host the walking tour and looks forward to further engagement.
