Dutch Cycling Embassy Joins Windesheim AI Hackathon

18 December 2025

On Friday, 28 November 2025, the Dutch Cycling Embassy headed to Windesheim University of Applied Sciences to take part in an inspiring one‑day AI Hackathon in Zwolle. The event brought together 100 international students, divided into 18 groups, to tackle real‑world business challenges from companies and organisations using artificial intelligence.

As part of the programme, the Dutch Cycling Embassy contributed its own case: identifying new international target groups and designing a campaign to reach them. This challenge encouraged students to think creatively about how knowledge exchange on cycling can be promoted across diverse audiences, combining data‑driven insights with cultural perspectives from around the world.

Throughout the day, students worked intensively on five different cases, guided by Windesheim staff and company representatives. The atmosphere on Windesheim’s campus was buzzing with energy as teams prepared their final pitches. DCE’s Emma Stubbe and Jorma Koepke served on the first round jury, evaluating the presentations and engaging with the students’ innovative ideas.

The Hackathon highlighted the value of international collaboration and interactive education: students gained hands‑on experience while companies and organisations benefited from fresh perspectives on AI and business development. For the Dutch Cycling Embassy, it was a unique opportunity to connect cycling promotion with cutting‑edge technology and innovative learning approaches.

We warmly thank Windesheim University of Applied Sciences, and in particular organiser Sander Janssens, for the close collaboration. It was a pleasure to see the creativity and enthusiasm of the students, and to witness how cycling continues to inspire new approaches in different fields.
