Knowledge Dutch Cycling Embassy joins final ECONNECTING meeting in Faenza, Italy 18 September 2025 Cycling News From 15 to 17 September, the Dutch Cycling Embassy took part in the final transnational meeting of ECONNECTING, the European network funded by the URBACT IV programme to encourage the exchange of good practices and innovative ideas in the field of sustainable mobility. The event marked the culmination of several years of collaboration focused on promoting sustainable mobility solutions and improving connections between urban and rural areas. A key theme throughout the meeting was the value of mutual learning and interregional exchange. Through study visits, conferences and debates, participants examined how ideas successfully tested in one context could inspire solutions elsewhere. In this collaborative spirit, the network launched the ECONNECTING Manifesto: a joint pledge to advance sustainable mobility strategies across Europe. During the closing conference, Shelley Bontje, Knowledge & Partnership Manager at the Dutch Cycling Embassy, highlighted the Netherlands’ achievements in fostering a strong cycling culture as a viable alternative to private car use. Her contribution aimed to inspire participating regions as they move forward in developing people-centred, low-carbon mobility systems. The concluding meeting was hosted in Faenza, Italy, by the lead partner Unione della Romagna Faentina, providing a fitting finale to this important European project.
