Dubai Capacity Building Workshop

15 November 2023

On November 1st and 2nd, the DCE organized a Capacity Building Workshop together with the Ministry of Water & Infrastructure. A month before Dubai will host the COP28, this workshop focused on reviewing the existing knowledge on developing for active mobility, and work together with different entities involved in Dubai’s mobility developments.

With experts Brett Petzer from Mobycon and Jeska de Ruiter from RHDHV, the 2-day workshop hosted representatives from the Dubai Police, the Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Sports Council, the Knowledge & Human Development Authority, Dubai’s bike sharing platform Careem and local cycling entrepreneurs. While Brett’s focus lied on cycling infrastructure, how to further develop the existing parts and identify and improve missing links, Jeska focused more on the human side with identifying who’s currently using cycling as means of transport, and how to reach and develop more cyclists in the city.

A special thanks to Deema Aburizik from Street Design Team and Nienke Gelderloos of the Dutch Consulate in Dubai for making this workshop happen.
