Knowledge Deutsche Bahn study visit 5 July 2023 Cycling News In late June, a delegation from Deutsche Bahn visited the Netherlands for a study visit on bike parking around train stations. The first day began with theoretical presentations by Erik Tetteroo (HOD Works) and Gert-Jan van Heteren (Royal HaskoningDHV). They explained the ins and outs of bike parking networks near train stations and everything that is important to keep in mind when designing them. In the afternoon, we visited several bike parking facilities at Amsterdam Zuid train station. While there, Nicole Brambor (VelopA) and Corstiaan van Elteren (Siemens) showcased their bike parking products and explained how they contribute to a positive user experience. Of course, we had to visit the new underwater bike parking garage at Amsterdam Central Station as well! The second day we focussed on Arnhem and its surrounding villages. Martijn te Lintelo from the Green Metropolitan Region Arnhem-Nijmegen gave a tour of Arnhem Central train station and provided insights on the perspectives of local municipalities. At Arnhem City Hall, Laurens Tait, Johan Krom (Arup) and Ton Kooymans (Dutch Bike Parking Academy) shared their experiences and vision on bike parking around train stations. In the afternoon, the group embarked on a bike tour of several train stations in the neighboring villages to compare them to the larger bike parking facilities they saw in Amsterdam. Through these experiences, the group came to understand that each situation, location, and demography requires tailor-made bike parking solutions. It was a pleasure to host a Deutsche Bahn delegation again! We look forward to continuing this fruitful collaboration for many years to come.
