Knowledge DCE Hosts Pre-Programme for University of Leeds Study Visit 6 June 2025 Cycling News On May 28th, 2025, the Dutch Cycling Embassy hosted a special pre-programme for students from the University of Leeds’ Institute for Transport Studies (ITS), ahead of their study visit to the Netherlands later in June of this year. The session provided valuable insights into Dutch mobility planning and cycling infrastructure, reinforcing the longstanding collaboration between the Embassy and the University. Emma Stubbe, project coordinator at the DCE, led the session, offering a comprehensive exploration of the historical and cultural factors that have shaped Dutch cycling over the past four decades. She discussed the key lessons learned and the far-reaching benefits of the Netherlands’ high cycling rates, emphasising the role of cycling in creating livable cities and sustainable transport solutions. In addition, Emma spoke about making cycling inclusive and integrating bicycles with public transport, ensuring that students gained a well-rounded understanding of how cycling fits within broader mobility systems. The event sparked many great questions, and the DCE looks forward to continuing its annual collaboration with the University of Leeds and inspiring future transport professionals.
