Broward County ThinkBike Workshop

15 May 2024

On April 30th and May 1st, 2024, the Dutch Cycling Embassy was in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for a ThinkBike Workshop hosted by the Broward County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and supported by Transit Alliance Miami. In addition to Chris Bruntlett from the Dutch Cycling Embassy, it featured experts Teije Gorris from Go-bility and Richard ter Avest from Goudappel. They focused on the topics of network and infrastructure design, as well as car management and bike-transit inter-modality.

The event unofficially got underway on the afternoon of April 19th with a cycling tour of Oakland Park led by the Broward MPO staff. Then on Tuesday morning, after introductions from the Dutch Cycling Embassy and a screening of Together We Cycle, the Dutch experts presented best practice in a series of plenary sessions. After a lunch break, the case studies were introduced, and breakout groups then spent the rest of the afternoon working through potential design solutions. Wednesday morning was spent rotating between plenary and breakout sessions, concluding with each group presenting solutions and answering questions.

We look forward to continuing to work with the Broward MPO in the future to ensure the successful implementation of these Dutch-inspired projects.
