On June 11th, the Dutch Cycling Embassy played host to students from CEPT University in Ahmedabad, India.

As part of a special summer school program entitled "Blueprint for Urban Transformation: Learning from the Dutch Experience", 22 students and two faculty members (including former DCE intern Shravan Shah) visited the Dutch Cycling Embassy in Delft. On the second of a ten day program, attendees were from a variety of graduate and post-graduate fields at CEPT University in Ahmedabad, India, including transportation planning, civil engineering, landscape architecture, and urban geography.

After a 45-minute presentation by the Dutch Cycling Embassy’s Chris Bruntlett, they discussed in more detail the successes (and mistakes) of the Netherlands as a cycling nation, the specific challenges faced in Ahmedabad, and what simple actions they could take to start the long journey to becoming more bike-friendly.

We enjoyed hosting these students, and answering their pertinent questions. We hope they bring a bit of Dutch-inspired thinking back home with them, to make the streets of Ahmedabad more welcoming to the bicycle.
