Knowledge Wiel Wijnen 10 April 2026 Wiel is driven by a fascination for how environments shape behaviour, wellbeing, and health. He holds a degree in Health and Society from Wageningen University, focusing on the relationship between urban design, public health, and everyday life. For his thesis, he conducted field research in Guwahati, India, exploring how people experience urbanising cities and how their surroundings influence daily wellbeing. He has experience in hosting workshops, co-creation processes and facilitating dialogue, bringing together different perspectives to reflect, exchange ideas and address urban challenges. Motivated to put cycling at the heart of urban development, he sees the bicycle as an almost magical tool to improve mental and physical health and create a sense of freedom. Outside of work, he enjoys long-distance cycling vacations, fixed-gear criteriums and collecting retro cycling jackets.
