Participants Studio Bereikbaar Established in 2012, Studio Bereikbaar embarked on the challenge to transform the urban mobility system. Our definition of ‘Accessible’ (Bereikbaar in Dutch) mobility has strongly evolved throughout the years: today, we see accessibility embedded in the larger system and dynamics of urban growth. We go beyond cars, bikes and public transport, and work on this gripping intersection of mobility and urbanism. We advocate for accessible green spaces, inclusive public spaces to meet up and hang around, pleasant and active living conditions for the elderly, easy access to jobs and much more. We analyse accessibility on different levels, from the regional level to street design itself. Operating across administrative tiers, we collaborate with customers varying from national ministries to municipal bodies in the Netherlands. All of these projects do revolve around our main goal: making our living environment and our everyday travels more sustainable and equitable. To us, bikes are a crucial asset in strategic urban and mobility planning. We have worked with many public institutions developing plans, (local) networks and policies to accommodate cycling, aiming at both improving ridership numbers, as well as urban quality and road safety. By doing so, we have continuously developed our understanding of cycling and its intrinsic link with other modalities, especially public transit. Moreover, our extensive database and analyses have allowed us to continuously support debates with politicians why cycling policy can and should make a difference – either to support their willingness to boast cycling, or convince them to do so.
