Who are we?

The DCE is a non-profit with a public–private network that connects Dutch cycling expertise and experience with international demand. Together, we work towards cycling-inclusive cities and regions that are liveable, healthy, and thriving.

With worldwide interest Dutch cycling knowledge, our network provides access to a wide range of expertise and experience. Together, we respond to international requests while taking the local context into account. The exchange of cycling knowledge, between participating organisations and with the rest of the world, continues to expand.

By joining, you gain access to this network and to opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and international visibility through the bicycle as a tool for better cities and regions.

Our mission is simple: cycling for everyone, everywhere, by creating better environments. We aim to increase impact abroad by offering access to the largest international cycling network in the Netherlands, up-to-date knowledge, and global exposure for your region, expertise, services, and products.

For municipalities and provinces, joining also provides an opportunity to showcase your policies and projects internationally, while learning from other regions working to make cycling a driver of liveable and accessible communities.

What we do?

As an intermediary between international demand for Dutch cycling expertise and the Dutch organisations that can provide it, DCE participants have access to all incoming requests for knowledge, advice, study visits, workshops, and partnerships.

This includes:

  • Study Visits and Visiting Delegations

  • ThinkBike Workshops and Seminars

  • Visibility via our website, communications, newsletter, and social media (over 200,000 followers across platforms)

  • Conference participation and speaking opportunities, including the annual highlight: Velo-city

  • Occasional collaboration as knowledge partner in trade and fact-finding missions with RVO and the Netherlands’ missions network

Our work is supported by the Netherlands Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (IenW), enabling us to promote Dutch cycling knowledge and experience internationally and align efforts for greater impact.

We also offer a dedicated online community for our network, where members can find Calls for Experts, event invitations, and other relevant updates. In addition, we host quarterly participants meetings to share news, opportunities, and experiences.

Membership contribution

Participation in the DCE network involves an annual membership contribution, which supports the coordination, communication, and activities of the network. The contribution depends on the type and size of the organisation. More information is available upon request.

Meet your fellow participants

Our 90+ participants share a common ambition: to promote Dutch cycling knowledge and culture worldwide. They represent a wide range of sectors, all contributing to more cycling-friendly environments, and consist of four pillars: public sector, private organisations, knowledge institutions, and other non-profits.

What connects them is a shared vision of sustainable, accessible, and future-oriented connectivity through cycling that create more liveable places. Within the network, they exchange knowledge, experiences, and contacts, and work together on solutions that strengthen the Dutch cycling model internationally.

We receive a wide variety of requests from regions around the world, often leading to collaborations and opportunities for our participants. As a DCE member*, you gain access to countless chances to connect with international organisations looking for Dutch expertise to help them realise their own cycling ambitions.

*Membership is open to Dutch organisations of all sizes that are registered with the Kamer van Koophandel (KvK) and based in, or have offices in, the Netherlands.
