Knowledge Valle de Aburrá Cycling Webinar 8 October 2021 Cycling News DCE meets Medellín and the Metropolitan Area of Valle de Aburrá to strengthen their cycling practices. The Metropolitan Area of the Valle de Aburrá —the second most populated metropolitan area in Colombia— recently launched its Mobility Master Plan for the next 10 years. This Master Plan seeks to reach inclusion and sustainability. To achieve this, it is necessary to articulate the Medellín Metro (the core city of the metropolitan area) with new active-mobility networks and practices, including their bicycle-sharing system “En Cicla”. To address these opportunities and challenges in the Metropolitan Area of Valle de Aburrá —in conjunction with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bogotá—the Dutch Cycling Embassy presented a Webinar on Friday, October 8th, 2021, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am (UTC−05:00). The government of the Metropolitan Area invited its officials and citizen representatives to exchange experiences and knowledge with the DCE in this virtual session, where two interpreters (both in English and Spanish) were available. The experts, including Panteia, Beccan Dávila+Puentes, Loendersloot Groep, Movares and Donkey Republic, focused in four topics: Good design practices for bicycle infrastructure. Gender inclusion to ensure and support women to use the bicycle as a safe mean of transport. Architectural design and infrastructure for bicycle parking facilities. E-bikes and bicycle-sharing systems. Caroline Ramaekers, Minister Counselor and Head of the Economic Department of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bogotá, and Natalia Piñeros, Commerce Official in the same Embassy kindly open the Webinar. The session ended with a great discussion with the citizen representatives and with words from Quincy Lissaur, Honorary Consulate of the Netherlands in Medellín. We look forward to continuing this collaboration! The recording of this webinar is available in our YouTube channel.
