TRAKO Railway Expo, Gdańsk

21 September 2023

On Wednesday, October 20th, 2023, Dutch Cycling Embassy Marketing and Communication Manager Chris Bruntlett participated in the TRAKO Railway Expo in Gdańsk. The annual event is the largest and most prestigious rail industry meeting in Poland and one of the largest in Central and Eastern Europe. His afternoon keynote took place in the conference session, “How Can Urban Railways Change the Metropolis?”, during which Chris offered insights into the bike-train model in the Netherlands, including the components of network design, bike parking/sharing, and the larger benefits of capturing the synergy between cycling and public transportation. This keynote was followed by the unveiling of the architectural concepts for a new regional railway line to the south of Gdańsk. We look forward to potentially introducing best practices from the Netherlands to the Polish designers of these stations through future workshops and study visits.
