Younes Foukalne

Profile picture of Younes Foukalne

Catching the cycling bug while working at a cargo bike manufacturer, Younes discovered the joys and challenges of inspiring people to rethink their personal mobility. Fuelled by curiosity and determination, he drew on his background as a geographer and returned to university to deepen his knowledge of transport systems. He ultimately specialised in the integration of cycling and public transport. His focus has been on identifying which elements of the Dutch cycling model can be adapted to strengthen cycling and public transport in diverse contexts outside the Netherlands.

Over the years, Younes has honed his expertise with a particular emphasis on the human dimension of transport policy. He firmly believes that successful cycling initiatives begin with understanding the diversity of people’s demographics, lifestyles, and motivations – as well as the barriers that may hold them back from cycling. His approach is rooted in collaboration: Younes is personable, meticulous, and deeply curious about other contexts. He thrives on working closely with partners to envision and co-create strategies that improve cycling infrastructure and culture, tailored to local needs.

Younes has lived and worked in The Netherlands, Belgium, Morocco and Sweden, and has specifically developed a feel for cycling in French-speaking Europe.
