Having grown up with the bicycle as a child, I am a big fan of the bicycle as a modality in its own right. I am a traffic engineer by profession and have gained experience with the government, namely with the city of Groningen, as well as with consultancies. At the moment, I am team leader of the mobility department at the engineering firm Roelofs. With more than 20 years of working experience, I can offer advice on political choices regarding cycling and provide an overview of the necessary facilities and the consequences for other traffic. What is taken for granted in the Netherlands is no guarantee in other countries. Through my experiences in Germany, including the city of Oldenburg, it is important to know what political issues are involved and what is needed to implement the first measures. It is therefore a passion of mine to raise awareness about the possibilities of using the bicycle as a true modality for a city or village as part of a clean, vital and climate-friendly mode of transport. Research into cycling potential, exploration of express cycle routes, bicycle facilities in area developments and bicycle-friendly infrastructure are a number of aspects with which I have gained a lot of knowledge and experience.
