Participants SWOV: Institute for Road Safety Research SWOV is the national scientific institute for road safety research in the Netherlands. The knowledge we develop is intended to help make traffic safer, and is aimed at policymakers at national, regional and local governments, semi governments and road safety professionals in the private sector. We also participate in several international collaborations. SWOV research is generally conducted in interdisciplinary teams. Our researchers come from various academic backgrounds, such as physics mathematics, psychology, sociology, human geography and civil engineering. SWOV is mainly funded through subsidies from the national government; however, we operate independently with respect to our research and findings. Our knowledge is always freely/publicly accessible. A programme advisory board and a scientific advisory board advise us about our research programme and the quality of our research.
