HOD works

HODworks is a consultancy specializing in bicycle-inclusive urban planning. Our core mission is to share expertise on how to (re)develop cities in the best tradition of Dutch urban planning, creating mobility solutions that enhance livability instead of overcrowding public spaces. We thrive on facilitating interactive workshops and always tailor our approach to local contexts, ensuring the involvement of communities in the planning process.

At the heart of our philosophy lies the HOD concept—Hybrid Oriented Development—a framework that emphasizes the interplay between intermodality and spatial planning. The “H” in HOD also reflects a Holistic approach. This concept is grounded in the synergy between cycling and train use as the cornerstone of sustainable transport. It encompasses strategies for increasing bicycle usage, including network planning, infrastructure improvement, behavior change, and enhanced facilities.

Founded in 2020 by Erik Tetteroo, HODworks draws on Erik’s extensive career as a consultant for various cities, the Dutch national government and his wealth of international experience. In addition to leading HODworks, Erik is a lecturer and team lead for urban mobility at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS), where he continues to innovate and educate in the field of mobility planning.
