On Wednesday, June 12th, the Dutch Cycling Embassy hosted the Governor of Bohol in the Philippines.

With a population of 1.3 million people, Bohol is the tenth largest island in the Phillipines, and a popular tourist destination. Joining us in our Delft office was Arthur Yap—previously a Member of the House of Representatives—who was elected the Governor of the Province of Bohol just last month. This was the second of a five day study tour of the Netherlands for Mr. Yap, who was in search of sustainable solutions for water, waste management, and transportation for his province.

Mr. Yap was welcomed by Marketing Manager Chris Bruntlett, who provided an overview of cycling in the Netherlands, and how the DCE’s network of expert partners can assist him. From there, the Governor inquired about hosting a future study tour of Dutch cities for the Mayors of Boyol's three largest cities. In addition to retrofitting those existing cities for cycling, he expressed interest in engaging the development community about building new resorts that are more cycle-friendly. We look forward to working with Mr. Yap and the Netherlands' Consulate in Manila, in order to help make the compelling economic case for more cycling in Bohol.
