South Korean Delegation visits NL
On 3rd November 2017, delegates from Seongnam, South Korea, visited the Dutch Cycling Embassy’s new office at ‘Yes!Delft’, Delft.
The purpose of the visit is to understand the various cycling notions in Netherlands.
Edward Douma made a brief presentation on the cycling scene in Netherlands. After presenting the DCE’s three component city cycling assessment approach, which consists of Hardware, Software, and Orgware, the UN Sustainability goals and Tour de Force were explained. The presentation was concluded with the focus on, why cities need cycling, its relevance and importance in the current rapid urbanizing cities, the benefits the cities can have in terms of Environment + Climate, Energy and Resources, Public Health, Economy, Technology + Design and Time + Space and other aspects.
After the presentation, discussions were carried out on specific cycling issues concerning the cities in South Korea. The discussed topics included Cycling policies in Netherlands, Popularity of cycling in Netherlands, Planning perspectives, Insurance for cyclists, Safety measures for cyclists and Fiscal policies and instruments related to cycling.
Convinced that Netherlands is the best cycling country, they showed interest to get the Dutch Cycling Embassy involved with projects regarding cycling in near future.
The event ended with a small tour of the ‘Yes!Delft’ Building.
