Delegation from Oslo visits NL
From Wednesday September 27th until Friday September 29th, a delegation from the City of Oslo visited the Netherlands in order to study cycling.
The delegation of 25 consisted of employees of two different departments of the City of Oslo; the Bicycle Plan Department and the Bicycle Project Department. These two departments manage more or less all cycling facilities in the City of Oslo, apart for the routes alongside state-owned main roads.
On Wednesday, straight after their arrival at Schiphol Airport, they were hosted by Mr. Richard ter Avest and Mr. Christiaan Kwantes of Goudappel Coffeng for lunch. After lunch, the experts provided presentations on the cycling policies and design practices in Amsterdam. Part of and a cycling tour through Amsterdam.
On Thursday, the group met with Mr. Herbert Tiemens from the Province of Utrecht who told them more about the cycling policies of the Province of Utrecht and the City of Houten. After this presentation, Mr. James Steward and Mr. Feiko Withagen of Velopa shared insights on bicycle parking facilities both in The Netherlands and in other countries, both with a presentation and with actually visiting bicycle parking facilities together. After lunch, Mr. Bas Hendriksen of Loendersloot Group and Mr. Tiemens organized a cycling tour through Utrecht and Houten.
On Friday, the group visited the City of Rotterdam for presentations by Mr. Bram Klemann, Mr. Warner Beumer, Mrs. Irma Bijl-Rodenburg and Mr. Martijn Guit. Topics included cycling innovations which are implemented in Rotterdam. After the lunch, Mr. Maurits Lopes Cardozo of BikeMinded and Mr. Lior Steinberg of Streetmakers, took the group on a cycling tour through Rotterdam. It was very nice to receive this delegation, and that the presentations where useful. And hopefully continue and see each other another time!
