Inspiration from Velo-city 2023

4 July 2023

From May 9th to 12th, 2023, the Dutch Cycling Embassy lead a delegation of over 100 Dutch experts from 34 public and private organizations to Leipzig, Germany for the 2023 Velo-city Conference, the world’s largest international cycling conference.

Numerous posts regarding cycling policy and international cycling surfaced on social media, accompanied by hashtags such as #VC2023 or #VC23. So, what precisely is the Velo-City conference, and what contributions can we, as Dutch cycling professionals, offer and gain from it? Furthermore, what kind of inspiration did participants attending the conference receive?

The following brochure, serves as a paper “after-movie” of Velo-city 2023. It captures the essence of this event, where diverse international cycling professionals including officials, politicians, academics, activists, consultancies, manufacturers, and numerous other experts convene. The collective objective is to advocate for cycling as a sustainable and healthy mode of mobility accessible to all. Throughout the week-long event, over 1,500 participants from over 60 different countries engaged in a vibrant exchange of knowledge and expertise.

There were more than 120 participants from the Netherlands. Upon returning to the Netherlands, the Tour de Force and the Dutch Cycling Embassy asked themselves the question: How can we contribute to ensuring that the acquired international knowledge and inspiration about cycling is also made available to cycling professionals who did not attend?
