Knowledge Green Traffic Safety Conference, Berlin 18 November 2024 Cycling News On November 13th, Emma Stubbe of the Dutch Cycling Embassy (DCE) presented at the Green Traffic Safety Conference, held at the Berlin State Parliament. This event, titled #sicherunterwegs, was dedicated to exploring new avenues to improve safe and sustainable mobility in Berlin. During the conference, Emma presented on the role of infrastructure for traffic safety according to the Dutch model. This model emphasises creating a traffic environment where everyone, including children, senior citizens, and people with disabilities, can move safely and comfortably through the city. The presentation highlighted how Dutch infrastructure designs prioritise safety, accessibility, and sustainability. Emma shared best practices and innovative solutions from the Netherlands, focusing on how these can be applied to create greener, more people-centric mobility policies. The session also underscored the importance of moving away from car-centric urban planning to enhance the overall quality of life. The conference featured engaging international lectures, interactive workshops, and networking opportunities with traffic safety experts from politics, practice, and science, all committed to shaping the future of mobility sustainably. It ended with a participatory policy-writing session, where people were able to bring their concerns and ideas forward to include in the Green Party’s future mobility and traffic safety strategy. The DCE’s participation in this conference is part of the follow-up to the Berlin Green Party’s study visit to the Netherlands earlier in 2024. The DCE would like to thank the Party’s team for the invitation to speak, as well as the continued collaboration in the process of fostering cycling-friendly mobility solutions for Berlin.
