Delft Study Visit from Arkansas

31 May 2023

On Tuesday, May 30th, 2023, as part of a larger program organized by US organization PeopleForBikes and network participant Mobycon, the Dutch Cycling Embassy received a delegation of 26 people from Arkansas in Delft. It was a diverse group of professionals working in mobility, including the Governor’s office, City of Bentonville, Wal-mart and the Walton Foundation. DCE Marketing and Communications Manager Chris Bruntlett and Mobycon’s Melissa Bruntlett welcomed the group with an introduction to Dutch cycling principles, and how they might be translated to American streets. From there, they led a conversation on the importance of reducing car dependence from an equity, access, and social perspective. After lunch, the group was led on a 12 kilometer study tour of Delft, including a stop at a local elementary school to witness the afternoon pick-up. The day wrapped up with a debriefing session led by the University of Amsterdam’s Meredith Glaser. We look forward to possible follow-up activities in the Arkansas area in the near future!
