Cycling Experts Erik Tetteroo Erik Tetteroo is the founder of HODworks and a lecturer and team lead for urban mobility at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS), Department of Built Environment. At AUAS, he launched the international bicycle program and has forged collaborations with universities around the world. With more than 20 years of international experience in mobility and urban planning, Erik has made significant contributions to sustainable transport. He previously served as a senior bicycle policy officer for the Dutch national government. Erik is a sought-after expert in cycling policy, planning, and promotion. He frequently delivers guest lectures at universities and speaks at international conferences. His dynamic teaching style and practical knowledge have made him a popular facilitator of hands-on workshops across Europe, the United States, Latin America, and Asia. In 2020, Erik founded HODworks to promote the development of livable urban spaces. A cornerstone of his work is the Hybrid Oriented Development (HOD) concept, which emphasizes the integration of cycling and train travel as key elements of sustainable mobility. HOD also incorporates holistic approaches to enhance cycling through network planning, behavior change, and infrastructure improvements. Erik holds degrees in Architecture and Urban Planning (Delft University of Technology) and a Master’s in City Development (Erasmus University Rotterdam). His career includes extensive project management for municipalities and serving as the principal cycling policy advisor for the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure. An avid cyclist, Erik commutes daily by bike and enjoys exploring nature on his gravel bike.
