Cycling Experts Emily Szabó Emily’s passion for urban planning and mobility stems from her experiences while growing up in several European countries. There she first-hand got to see the impact that layout, infrastructure and policies within a city can have on the livability and the modal choice of its inhabitants – for better or worse. So, the decision of following this interest into her studies came as no surprise, completing her master’s in Urban and Economic Geography at Utrecht University. Throughout her studies the benefits that a safe urban environment and an efficient transportation system, whether that be good public transport connections or a well-structured bike network, has on the freedom of mobility of inhabitants and their life satisfaction became undeniable. As a result, she now addresses these topics in her work as a Mobility and Traffic Advisor at Hart voor Verkeer (Heart for Traffic) and helps create smart, sustainable, safe and bike-friendly traffic solutions for cities across the Netherlands and, hopefully one day, abroad.
