Cycling Experts Elke Schimmel After studying urban planning and anthropology, Elke worked in Europe and Latin America. She was, among others, significantly involved in the development of the Vorarlberger Landesradroutenkonzept (AT), carried out a potential analysis for car-free living environments (CH), worked on the Liechtenstein bicycle route concept, coordinated the creation of a bicycle traffic concept in Ecuador, and carried out a potential analysis of bicycle parking with the horizons 2030 and 2040 for Amsterdam Zuid. She teaches on the design of sustainable, inclusive transport infrastructure and mobility services at universities in the Alpine region and is currently leading a cross-border research project, which investigates how traffic signal controlled intersections can better facilitate sustainable forms of mobility. In her company november:city, she works with a dedicated team on the climate-friendly and socially just development of cities in different countries and cultures whereby the promotion of cycling plays a central role. Elke values a participatory planning approach and working in networks (e.g. URBACT). She is also one of the initiators of Women in Cycling Switzerland.
