Alex van Gent

Alex is an experienced project manager and consultant in active transport and sustainable mobility. With more than 18 years of experience, he leads the Arcadis active transport team in the Netherlands and continues to expand his expertise in active mobility.

With a background in transport planning, he started his career as a researcher in road safety and infrastructure and then entered the world of consultancy as an Integrated Transport Planner with a focus on active transport.

Alex moved to Sydney, Australia in 2017 to work on active and integrated transport projects. His key clients were the City of Sydney, Sydney Airport and Transport for NSW. In addition, Alex shared insights about ‘the Dutch cycling approach’ as a guest speaker at multiple Australian events. Throughout his career he worked on projects across the globe, including, the Netherlands, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, Australia and Scotland.

Alex brings creative solutions to the key areas of active mobility, including infrastructure design, behavioral change, and end-user and community support. He inspires designs and solutions for cyclists of all ages and abilities through a focus on safety and comfort. With his many years of Dutch and international experience, Alex knows how to motivate and inspire his clients to improve cycling conditions within the Netherlands as well as abroad.
