XIAMEN (CN) VISITS THE NETHERLANDS
The City of Xiamen in Southeast China, hopes to develop a city-wide fast bike lane/track system. A high-level government delegation visited the Netherlands in the first weekend of July to study best practices of bicycle infrastructure.
The city delegation consisted of the Deputy Secretary General of the City, who is in charge of the bicycle program. China Sustainable Transportation Center, will help the city to develop this bicycle system and therefore joined the delegation to the Netherlands.
On Satuday 2 July the group was welcomed by Maurits Lopes Cardozo, design consultant at Bike-minded. Mr. Lopes Cardozo welcomed the group in Amsterdam and hosted the session about the Dutch perspective on cycling. Pascal van den Noort, mobility expert and Executive Director at Velo Mondial joined the session and had the guests experience (cycling in) Amsterdam in the afternoon.
The next day, Ruben Loendersloot of the Loendersloot Group took the guests for a bike ride in and around Nijmegen. The city of Nijmegen is winner of the Dutch Cycling City award of 2016/2017. The focus was on cycling highways, on the network of the roads as well as the design of the cycle paths on a detailed level. The tour ended in the Dutch Bicycle Centre, where the (produce of Nijmegen) Sandwich bicycle (http://sandwichbikes.com/) was admired by the Chinese guests.
