Discussing South Africa’s Road Safety

During their visit to the Netherlands, the South African delegation for Road Traffic met with experts from the Dutch Cycling Embassy in Delft.

The meeting was led by DCE-director Mirjam Borsboom and included presentations by Dorian Lohmann (DCE) and Aletta Koster (Royal HaskoningDHV).

Aside from reviewing different aspects of the Dutch cycling culture and former projects in South Africa, the visiting officials got the chance to outline some of their current issues. While mainly focusing on South African Road Safety, participants discussed potential approaches to problems like congestion and limited mobility of (school)children in rural areas.
Knowing that cycling shouldn’t be the mere goal but often is the solution to various problems, we look forward to continue assisting our partners in South Africa with the development of long-term strategies.
