The city Mississauga is on the southern part of the province Ontario in Canada and lies on the shores of the Lake Ontario. The city is the closest suburban area to Toronto and it is the 6th most populous municipality in Canada. The city is mostly flat. The climate ranges from -20 degrees Celsius in winter to +32 degrees Celsius in summer. Generally, the temperature is moderate with relatively low snowfall compared to the rest of the province.
Currently, the cycling in the city is mostly recreational or sport as it has many trail routes. It is not the preferred mode for commuting because of the longer detours. Even in the neighborhood mobility where the trip distance is low, cycle is rarely used. For daily commuting car is the main mode of transport in the city and the car parking lots, dominate the landscape and view of the city. Nevertheless, in the last couple of years, there is a growing interest on cycling. With the improvement of cycling scenario in neighborhood mobility and many trip generator locations in the city, the mode share can improve. Also, the pull and push strategies require not just improving the cycling scenario in the city, but also applying restriction on the car usage. Mississauga being a polycentric city from Toronto, can explore the option of Hybrid Oriented Development.
