The Secretary for the Department for Urban Development of India mr Sudhir Krishna and the Secretary for Transport in the Department mr. Sanjeev Lohia visited Amsterdam to participate in Intertraffic on 28 and 29 March. At their request the Dutch Cycling Embassy organised a guided tour in Amsterdam to show the design of cycling provisions and the public bike system run by the Dutch Railways NS-OV Fiets. Mr Krishna and mr Lohia requested assistance from the Embassy regarding the introduction of public bike schemes in India. The plan is to involve more than 40 cities and to have some demonstration projects. India is looking for alternatives for automatic public bike systems that are put in place all over the world. The Dutch Embassy offered to present an overview of different systems with advantages and disadvantages.
