On January 23rd the Dutch Cycling Embassy conducted a ThinkBike workshop in Vienna, host city of Velo-City later this year, for an audience of about 20 Viennese traffic planners and policy makers. The Dutch team of cycling specialists gave an introduction into the Dutch design for cycling-inclusiev planning and policy. Subsequently they challenged the Viennese participants to apply them to real traffic situations in Vienna. These were Mariahilferstrasse, an important shopping street; Europaplatz, a link in the Vienna Gurdel and entrance to WestBahnhof; and Urania an busy junction for cyclists and car traffic. The Dutch team consisted of Ineke Spapé, professor at NHTV, Natasja Boekel, bicycle parking specialist at Jan Kuipers Nunspeet, Ron Bissels, bicycle parking specialist at Velopa and Marjolein de Lange, bicycle and policy specialist for the Dutch Cycling Embassy.
