Knowledge Université Côte d’Azur Study Visit to Amsterdam 12 January 2023 Cycling News On Tuesday, January 10th, 2023, the Dutch Cycling Embassy hosted a group of students from Université Côte d’Azur’s MSc Engineers for Smart Cities program, who were participating in a week-long study abroad program in the Netherlands, including stops in Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, and Utrecht. The group of about 20 international students enthusiastically took to the streets of Amsterdam, despite the cold and rainy weather, with the DCE’s Chris Bruntlett as their guide. Highlights of the 5 kilometre ride included the still-under-construction, underwater bicycle parking at Amsterdam Centraal Station. We also visited Jodenbreestraat—the site of the freeway fight that changed the course of the city’s history—and Alexanderplein—a busy intersection where City engineers had removed the traffic lights, with positive results. We hope this eye-opening experience inspires their push to improve conditions for cyclists in their own cities.
