City of Padova 2014

Country: Italy, Activity: Exposition

Great success in promoting policies for cycling and bicycles “With more than 60,000 visitors we were overwhelmed by the attention of the Italian people.” The Dutch Embassy and the Dutch Cycling Embassy were present with a Round Table Conference and a Holland Stand at the seventh edition of the ExpoBici in Fiera di Padova, Padova. Together with the Mayor of Zwolle, the most friendly bicycle city of the Netherlands, a delegation of cycling experts from the Dutch Cycling embassy and Dutch cycling companies we promoted policies for cycling and some innovative Dutch bicycles and bicycle products like a parking system. In the opening session, Mr H.J. Meijer, Mayor of Zwolle, explained the benefits from cycling and how Zwolle became the most bicycle-friendly of the Netherlands. During the Round Table Conference a delegation of cycling experts of the Dutch Cycling Embassy shared their experiences and knowledge of cycling policies. Topics discussed were safety and security, infrastructure and tourism. After the Conference, of course, we cycled through the beautiful city of Padova. Guided by the FIAB, the Italian Cycling Union we saw some traffic situations in more detail. Holland Stand In the Holland stand we shown some innovative Dutch bikes from Urban Arrow, BoughBikes, Alinker, Minute, Beixo, VanMoof and a park system for bicycles from Calllock. And we were very proud to show the world's fastest bicycle, made by students of the Human Power Team at the Technical University of Delft. Jos Sluijsmans, from Fietsdiensten.nl and director of the International Cargo Bike Festival commented: “The interest from the Italian people in our bicycles was overwhelming. We actually made business, selling bicycles and setting up good contacts for the Dutch Cycling Industry. Italy is a very interesting market with a high potential for the Dutch Cycling Industry.” Olandiamo in Veneto Participation in the ExpoBici stems from the programme "Olandiamo in Veneto", from the Dutch Embassy and the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Italy. This programme is designed to promote economic and cultural exchange between the Netherlands and Italy.
